Paris-Nice 2010: On your bike…..
BY Liz Lord FOR FR2DAY.COM Mar 4, 2010
More classic sporting action on the way. On March 7 a contingent of cyclists head south in the famous "Going to the Sun" race. The race started way back in 1933 when it was won by Belgian Alphonse Schepers. It's taken place almost every year since, finishing on the Promenade des Anglais.

The cyclists cover a total of 1288km over 8 days. The Tour de France site has lots more information about the course and its competitors. If you live in the Alpes-Maritimes, head over to Tourrettes sur Loup, to welcome the competitors home on the afternoon of March 13.
The riders will have pedalled over from Peynier (north of La Ciotat) that day, on the penultimate race section. On March 14 the competitors head north from Nice, up the D6202, into the Vésubie valley as far as Lantosque, before heading south over the Col de Turini to Lucéram, and down to the coast. A route the has challenged all the sport's greats!.
Last year's winner was the legendary Luis León Sánchez. Keep checking on FR2DAY, we'll be posting more details about where you can congregate to cheer and wave your flags!
