Edo Sushi in Cannes

Situated a stone's throw off Rue d'Antibes, this bijou restaurant is the perfect stop for a shopping lunch. The two level restaurant has capacity for about 30 diners so arriving early is key to getting a table if you haven't booked. Three groups were turned away shortly after our arrival at 12.30pm.
Only one waitress was serving when we arrived on a busy Saturday in January, so the service left a lot to be desired. It was half an hour before our drinks arrived and almost an hour before the food turned up, by which time we would have eaten the tablecloths if there had been some.
We were sitting upstairs and noticed that some customers came in, ordered and finished their lunch before our food had even arrived, a little frustrating when you are ravenous.

The food was worth waiting for though - the edamame were salty and scrumptious, the tempura prawns and vegetables had the light, crispy finish that tempura needs to be truly good while the veggies inside were still al dente and not soggy and our selection of maki rolls and nigiri were close to perfection, if a little on the small side.
We decided to throw caution to the wind and order an extra serving of tuna maki rolls and these arrived just six minutes after ordering (we know because we timed it.) It was after the initial lunchtime rush so perhaps on a fully staffed day, the service would have been a lot quicker. I'm happy to take a punt on that being the case, another time. It was also good value - lunch for four came to just under €70.
