Sarao - A great bar and restaurant by the sea in Nice

Nice's famous Promenade des Anglais is home to a plethora of seafront restaurants, ranging from budget options with laminated menus to something a little more refined. Situated moments away from the Palais de la Mediterranée, Sarao Restaurant and Bar certainly fits into the latter.

The restaurant is immediately welcoming with its pretty pavement terrace, enabling diners to enjoy views of the ocean whilst eating (however on Friday and Saturday this seating area must be pre-booked.) Inside, the warm terracotta palette creates an ambient dining atmosphere, and every Saturday guests are treated to live music by a Jazz guitarist.

Specialising in Mediterranean cuisine, the restaurant offers an excellent choice of Tapas dishes to share, including favourites such as gazpacho and tortilla. Whilst the food is not particularly adventurous, Sarao's strength lies with its selection of an elegant combination of ingredients for each dish, such as the Mixed Salad, Warm Goat Cheese and Lavender Honey as a starter. The food never deviates from the Mediterranean palette, and take full advantage of local produce.

The menu has a wide selection of main courses, with a good choice for vegetarians, and a wide selection of different meats (Grilled sirloin steak with rocket salad and white truffle oil, Free Range Chicken supreme with cream and Sage butter sauce). As with any Mediterranean restaurant, there is also an excellent choice of seafood and fish dishes, with a particularly good sea bass fillet served with cumin cream and fennel. The restaurant also offers a good choice of wine and classic desserts, including fruits, ice cream, tiramisu, crème brulee.

With friendly, attentive service, Sarao is a reliable choice for its location and consistently well prepared food, making it a great place to start your evening.
