All Eyes on the Principality for TriStar111 Monaco this September
BY Iarla Byrne FOR FR2DAY.COM Aug 26, 2010
The inaugural TriStar111 Monaco, the new name and branding for the Ironman 70.3 triathlon, takes place in the Principality on Sunday 5th September. With over 600 tri-athletes already registered, this is by far the biggest TriStar111 race of the season. The TriStar brand is owned by Star Production SARL, a Monaco based company who specialise in the organisation and promotion of top quality sporting events.
Athletes will be competing over a testing 111km long course (and thus the name...!) - a 1km swim starting from the Larvotto Beach at 8:00am followed by the 100km cycle through Monaco, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and up into the hills towards La Turbie and Èze and then back to the Principality for the run consisting of two 5km circuits around Monaco, following sections of the famous Grand Prix circuit. The cut-off time for the race is 7.5 hours - serious athletes need only apply!

Names to look out for in this year's race include local athlete Hervé Banti, Mikel Elgezabal, Chris "Macca" McCormack, Marcel Zamora, Francky Batelier and Olivier Marceau. On the ladies side, the Niçoise, Christel Robin (pictured above) will once again be participating, having been a regular competitor in the Monaco 70.3 event. She will be facing stiff competition but expect her to match previous results and maybe even produce a podium finish!
Entries to the event have now closed for amateur athletes, but if you're a professional with nothing better to do on Sunday 5th September, why not get yourself down to Larvotto Beach? Further information about the race is available on the TriStar111 Monaco website.
