Joel Robuchon, a real star in Monte-Carlo

Set in the palatial surroundings of the grand Hotel Metropole, Joel Robuchon's Monte-Carlo restaurant is a gastronomic delight. While the panoramic view of Monaco's old town and the sea beyond is certainly beautiful, perhaps the more interesting sight is the open kitchen, where diners can catch a glimpse of head chef Christophe Cussac (bottom right with Robuchon) creating culinary masterpieces inspired by the master of the Michelin star.

Great emphasis is placed on top quality produce and authentic Mediterranean flavours. Even seemingly simple dishes, such as lamb chops with creamy mashed potato, are given a touch of the Robuchon magic and the resulting plate of food is truly inspired. Other noteworthy dishes include caramelised quail in truffle sauce and crayfish served with crisp-cooked pasta and basil sauce. And if you're keen to treat your palate without breaking the bank, the restaurant offers an excellent value lunch menu, with three courses for only €29 per person.

When it comes to restaurant accolades, there really is only one awards list whose publication brings even the greatest chefs out in a sweat.
