Oops! There goes the world's most expensive cognac!

Ever get a horrible sinking feeling to end a smashing time? That's what happened at London’s Playboy Club when an incredibly expensive bottle of booze was lost forever. A businessman asked to look at a 1788 bottle of Clos de Griffier Vieux cognac that was worth $77,600. Since he’d just ordered two glasses of brandy at $7,800 each, the club could hardly refuse. Unfortunately, the excitable patron stood up and accidentally knocked the cognac to the ground where it broke. As the bar owner said, "That's the most expensive bar floor in the world." The bottle shattered and now the world’s most expensive cocktail, which bartender Salvatore Calabrese was going to mix for a Guiness World Record attempt, has lost a key ingredient.

The bottle, which dates from French Revolution time, was part of the famous "Tour d'Argent" wine cellar, and was recently auctioned. The Tour d'Argent managed to save most of its famous cellar from the occupying German forces by walling up the majority of it as P{aris was overrun in 1940.
