My Riviera by Louise (Lucy) Bird

Lucy Bird is a chef based in Chateauneuf and runs a small catering company, organising everything from dinner parties to weddings and corporate events. When Lucy is not catering for clients she can invariably be found in the kitchen cooking for family and friends or making cupcakes!

Where were you born?
Hereford in England which is the World famous home of the SAS.

Why are you here?

It's a very long story! We lived in the French Alps but it got boring at the end of the ski season plus the sun shines more in the South of France. It is also a very easy place to live for a foreigner.

Who are you with?
My partner Wayne, my two children Harvey and Sophia and Wayne's three children Harry, Lily and Lottie.

Where do you live and why?
Chateauneuf and why not?

Where do you work?

I work for myself, I am a chef and run a small catering company called Radish Events which Wayne used to help me with a lot but has now abandoned me for bigger things!

Early bird or night owl?
I think I am an early bird - Wayne would say I am a night owl but then it's hard to compete with someone who is up at 4am, my 6.30am looks lazy to him!

What's for breakfast?
Two cappuccinos and a handful of almonds.

Best beach?
None around here for me, I like Hyeres, long sandy beaches with no people.

Best bar?
Any on the beach as the sun goes down and preferably with a glass of rosé.

Best Crunched restaurant?
Mr Steak (Lynex Grill) in Chateauneuf. No frills just great steak and chips with an entertaining man who cooks, serves and does the dishes after.

Best Minted restaurant?
Belles Rives in Juan-les-Pins, sitting at a table by the waters edge on a summers day, it's heaven.
.
Best for lunch?
Astroux and Brun in Cannes. Had my most memorable meal there with Wayne where we had a very romantic meal then he threw the contents of the ice bucket over me as we left! A great restaurant and a real 'must visit' at least once in your life.

Best view?
I love the view of Le Bar sur Loup from our house especially when I am out running, although it would be nicer if it were a little less hilly.

Best for love?
At home on our own which is very rare when you have got five children!

Best shopping?
The Rue d'Antibes in Cannes of course!

Best for late nights?
Parties at our house. We have a party company so they do tend to be fantastic even if I say so myself.

Best Riviera party ever?
Soho House party at the Film Festival last year. It was pure decadence with every kind of food you can imagine, cocktails on tap, the biggest vodka bar in the world and a private gig by The Feeling and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Best Riviera meal ever?

Fresh pasta with shaved new season white truffles in a small Italian restaurant on Rue Hoche in Cannes.

Best place for people watching?
La Croisette in Cannes.

Fave holiday/last holiday?
Croatia and Croatia last summer. Absolutely stunning, all by car from here right down to Serbia and the whole time in a tent with a break for lunch on Lake Garda en-route.Pure paradise.

Fave book/last book?
Life of Pi by Yann Martel and my current read (when I get five minutes!) is Salmon fishing in the Yemen by Paul Torday.

Fave movie?
Hideous Kinky with Kate Winslet. Just a wonderful movie with the most breathtaking cinematography.

Give a first-time visitor a tip?
Lock your doors, take care and enjoy the fantastic life we live.

Favourite Cote d'Azur discoveries?
Skiing in the morning and the beach in the afternoon!!!

Have you ever rubbed shoulders with a star and where?
The lead singer from The Feeling at the Soho House Party.

Have you had your fifteen minutes of fame yet?
Yes but would like another soon! British Windsurfing Champion a long time ago.

What do you get friends to bring back from home?
Cupcake wrappers and giant Chocolate Buttons.

Parlez-vous Français?
Cringe - désolé!

Favourite French word?
Malheureusement.

Favourite English word?
Food of course.

Worst thing about France?
Cabs are way too expensive.

Best thing about France?
The easy life I have here, the wonderful light and the blue skies.

Are you here forever?
Sadly nowhere is forever but this will certainly do for now.

Lucy and Radish Events are available for all kinds of catering from dinner parties to weddings and you can contact her on +33 687 040338, by email or check Lucy's website HERE
