Charles Aznavour, One of France's Greatest Entertainers of All Time, is Coming to Nice

This November, do not miss your chance to see legendary singer and songwriter Charles Aznavour, one of France's most popular artists, on stage when his new nationwide tour makes a stop at the Palais Nikaïa in Nice as it may well be one of, if not, the last. After all, one should remember that M. Aznavour is already 87.

The man behind 'She', the famous song performed by Elvis Costello for the Julia Roberts/Hugh Grant comedy 'Notting Hill', is known around the world for his charismatic stage presence, his traditional chanson style, his socially critical lyrics and his mellow tenor voice. You should therefore be in for a treat!

The son of Armenian immigrants, Aznavour was born in Paris in 1924 where he made his stage debut at just 9 years of age with a few minor roles in the theatre as well as in several films. It is however not before the age of 30 that the multi-talented artist really encountered success with his live rendition of 'Sur Ma Vie', a success that would soon cross national boundaries and has never since waned.

The multi-talented artist went on to sell more than 100 million records worldwide. His music has been recorded and performed by some of the world's greatest singers such as Edith Piaf, Maurice Chevalier, Bing Crosby, Ray Charles, Shirley Bassey, Fred Astaire, and Liza Minnelli, and in 1998 Aznavour was named Entertainer of the Century by CNN and Time Online, edging out the likes of Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. The musician has also starred in over 60 films and has been appointed by UNESCO as a permanent ambassador to Armenia.

For his new tour entitled "En toute intimité", the French crooner has selected "some new songs [from his recently newly released album, 'Always'], some old, some very old, and some all-time favourites", and if today Aznavour may not be able to carry off performances as he once did, the octogenarian is without doubt one of the last living legends of French chanson.

Charles Aznavour plays the Palais Nikaïa in Nice on Thursday, 16th November at 8:30pm. Tickets range in price from €60 to €100 and are on sale through the usual outlets.
