Folk Legend Joan Baez is coming to Monaco

Folk legend and political activist Joan Baez is coming to Monaco this autumn for a unique concert at the Grimaldi Forum on the 4th of October. Known as much for her music and for her distinctive vocal style, with a string vibrato, as for her lifelong career of human rights activism, the American/Mexican singer still excites audiences all around the world more than fifty years after starting her career.
This true global icon has worked with and inspired a generation of folk rock artists including Bob Dylan and some of her most famous songs include 'Diamonds & Rust', 'Farewell, Angelina', 'Love Is Just a Four-Letter Word' and 'We Shall Overcome'.

After Baez first took the stage of the Newport Folk Festival in 1959 to perform 'Virgin Mary Had One Son' and 'We Are Crossing Jordan River' with folk singer Bob Gibson, she was quickly called the "Barefoot Madonna". Soon thereafter, she started to sing about freedom and social issues.
For most of her career, she has been at all the civil right fights the globe over: she has marched with Martin Luther King Jr., protested the Vietnam war, demonstrated for the rights of California's migrant farm workers alongside César Chávez, supported gay and lesbian rights, encouraged Vaclav Havel, stood beside Nelson Mandela to celebrate his 90th birthday and became an environmental activist.
If today the queen of folk may seem a bit more discreet, she still nonetheless continues to fight for social justice - in March of this year Baez was honoured by Amnesty International at their 50th Anniversary Annual General Meeting in San Francisco - and to tour the world with her music. She has released more than 30 albums with songs recorded in as many as eight languages, and recently started working with a younger generation of songwriters, such as Steve Earle on her latest album, Day After Tomorrow.
Tickets range in price from €45.50 to €67.50 and are on sale at the Grimaldi's ticket office or online.
