FR2DAY interview with the sensational Cindy Gomez

Singer Cindy Gomez is going to be huge. You may not be familiar with the name now, but take it from us, this incredibly talented young woman was born to perform, and will very soon be taking over the music world. Having worked with Dave Stewart (yes, him of Eurythymics fame) for the last number of years and having also appeared on 40 million Nokia handsets when she was chosed by the Finnish handset manufacturer for their 'Dance Fabulous' mobile game, the future is indeed very bright for Ms. Gomez.
FR2DAY caught up with Cindy on a recent visit to the Côte d'Azur.

Is this your first time on the Côte d'Azur? What are your impressions of the place?
No, this is my third time here, three times a charm! I love the place, I want to move here! It's really a stunning place, so beautiful, the food is incredible...what's not to love?! It certainly lives up to the dream.
You sing in a number of different languages - do you have a particular favourite?
I do like French, Ediath Piaf is my favourite singer, so I really enjoy that a lot. I like them all, it depends on the song and the mood I'm in - there's always a song for a particular mood and a language for it too. Each language has its own sound. I'm into languages and culture, I speak three languages including French, and I'm learning German now too!

Musically, who would you say has influenced you most?
As I said earlier, Edith Piaf is definitely one of my biggest influences. But I also really like U2 and Coldplay. Even though I don't do rock music, I love the Edge's guitar and the lyrics, they really reach into your soul. I also like Whitney Houston and other vocal divas.
What was it like to be the first artist to have your career launched through a mobile platform?
It is great for a new artist to be in a position to reach such a big audience through such a new and exciting medium. I was approached by Nokia to provide music for a game that they were developing. As a result, I have got to spend the last few months in Asia, travelling to places where they may not have heard my music before. And I also got to be a cartoon character in the game, so that was cool! Nowadays, so many things are turning to mobile platforms, it certainly seems to be the way forward.

What is it like working with Dave Stewart?
It's magic, absolute magic. He is the only person that I have met in my life who is capable of honing in on you, who you are. He listens to you as a person. As an artist, you want to be unique and be able to express yourself and Dave lets you do that.
What are your plans musically for the immediate future? Your new album comes out in a few months.
'The Sound of Freedom' is out in the fall. We're still working on it, adding songs, changing songs - it's all very exciting. It will be released in three volumes with four songs on each volume. We'll release a volume every few months, with a brand new style, a brand new theme for each one.
Is there anyone you would really like to work with?
Max Martin, I'm a really big fan of his songs. And George Michael, I love his song Freedom...it would be great to do a duet with him!
Do you think that you will be coming back to perform for us on the French Riviera?
I really hope so, yes, would do so in a heartbeat! I would definitely welcome the opportunity to come back and perform here.

And I think we can safely say that we are all looking forward to that! We wish Cindy every success with her new album(s) and continued success with her career.
Special thanks to Michael Winkler for organising this interview
