Goodbye Wizards, Hello Monte Carlo - Selena Gomez to star in the new Monte Carlo movie

Fox 2000 have waved their magic wand and cast the ultimate in Disney darlings - Selena Gomez in their new movie 'Monte Carlo', based on the novel "Head-hunters", a young-adult adventure by Jules Bass. Lot's of local locations, so a boost for the Cote d'Azur film industry - to show our friends at LA2DAY that Hollywood isn't the only place to make a movie!
'Head-hunters', the novel is about the adventures of three ordinary teachers from the US Mid-West who ditch their low-frills, ho-hum Parisian holiday in favour of posing as wealthy socialites vacationing in glitzy Monaco. The film, though, has a younger spin, with two of the characters in college and one just out of high school. (Selena has been cast as Grace, the youngest of the three). The story kicks into fast adventure mode after a million-dollar necklace goes missing and the girls must scramble to find it.
The relationship between Fox 2000 and the 17 year old "Wizards of Waverly Place" star, Gomez, is blossoming, as she also plays one of the lead roles in "Ramona and Beezus" which hits screens this July.
According to 'The Hollywood Reporter', other teen stars Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), Cory Monteith (Glee), and Katie Cassidy (Melrose Place) have all been approached to star alongside Selena in 'Monte Carlo', whilst Andie MacDowell will play her mother in the movie. Nicole Kidman was originally set to take on one of the lead roles but is now reportedly one of the producers instead. Directed by Tom Bezucha, Monte Carlo will begin filming in May at locations that include Paris, Monaco, Nice, and Budapest.

With this particularly glamorous feather in her wizard cap and high profile co-star and producer names linked to the movie, it looks like Selena is already on her way to becoming a fully fledged wizard...oops...film star. Only a matter of time before she literally zaps herself into deeper character roles. But does this mean we have to bid au revoir to our favourite family of Disney wizards? Where's that magic crystal ball when you need it?!
