Jean-Michel Jarre lights up the Principality

"I will cherish this moment forever", said the new reigning princess of Monaco when she addressed the crowd Friday night during the free concert of electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre. And what a memorable night it was indeed for all the 85,000 persons who gathered on Port Hercule to celebrate in a spectacular manner the civil wedding of Prince Albert and former South African Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock, which took place earlier that day in the palace's Throne Room.
Jarre is famous around the world for his hit albums such as Oxygen, Equinoxe, Magnetic Fields or Rendez-vous which sold over 80 million copies to date as well as for his innovative open-air shows which have attracted Guiness Record-breaking audiences. His concerts usually take place in exceptional settings from the city of Lyon in France to welcome Pope John Paul II to the Great Pyramids of Egypt to celebrate the new millennium.

The French musician is currently on the road for a new world tour and to toast the newlyweds, he designed a special light show which transformed the entire Principality into a huge amphitheatre, with a 200 metre long stage right on the water. For two hours, it was an explosion of electronic beats, colourful lights, laser choreography, HD videos and fireworks that provided for an electrifying atmosphere and was totally a feast for the eyes and ears.
The futuristic concert was also broadcast live by satellite and internet. When he addressed the crowd early in the evening, Prince Albert did not fail to mention all their "friends from around the world, from different countries, different continents, who are watching us right now", while his beautiful wife thanked everyone in Afrikaans, Zulu, French and English - "Siyabonga, baie dankie, merci, thank you for all your love and support" - before ending her little speech with a "Viva Monaco".
