Monaco just cannot get enough of Michael Jackson

The principality of Monaco definitely cannot get enough of Michael Jackson. After the Grimaldi Forum, which hosted 'Thriller Live' earlier this year, it is now the Sporting's turn to pay tribute to the King of Pop with 'Man in the Mirror - Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits', running from the 8th to the 12th of August and then again from the 16th to the 19th of August.

Featuring an international cast, and named after one of Jackson's hits, this new show celebrates the music of one of the greatest entertainers of all time, from his beginnings with the Jackson Five to his successful solo career. This is not however an examination of the man's life and the choices he made.

If the show includes a few sound bite tributes on a huge screen from Janet Jackson, Liza Minnelli, Justin Timberlake, Quincy Jones, and Whitney Houston, as well as pictures and snippets of interviews with Jackson himself, it is more a journey through the artist's career than a musical.

There is no dialogue or story to follow, just a concert with jaw-dropping special effects showcasing some of the artist's biggest hits, from I'll Be There, The Way You Make Me Feel and Smooth Criminal to Bad, Thriller, Beat It and Black or White. There is also no chronological order.

From beginning to end, it is a whirlwind of crowd-pleasing Jackson numbers, performed at high-volume by an eight-piece live band and vocalists punctuating the songs by some high pitched "ee-hee"s, while the dancers do lots of acrobatics and moonwalk.

For a fun and lively night out this August, don't hesitate any longer and head to the Sporting. The concerts start at 10:30pm each night. Tickets cost either €60 (without dinner) or €110 (with dinner) and can be bought online on the Monte Carlo Sporting Summer Festival's website.
