For a family of happy campers, head to one of the many child-friendly campsites in the region. In the heart of the Riviera, Les Pinedes offers a wide range of activities to keep all ages entertained, from games, sports and donkey rides for the younger ones, to fishing and sight-seeing for the rest of the family. Meanwhile, the kids will love exploring the spectacular pine forest in which Campsite La Pierre Verte is set. As they roam the woods or splash around in the impressive water park, you can relax in the attractive bar-restaurant and enjoy the camp's picturesque surroundings in Frejus. The nearby La Bastiane describes itself as a ‘children's paradise', with plenty of activities to amuse the little ones. But with a host of entertainment for all the family, this fun-filled campsite won't just be a winner with the youngsters.

If it's a romantic getaway you're after, the Riviera is the ideal place to find a dreamy campsite that's perfect for a cosy night under the stars. Set on La Grande Corniche in the beautiful town of Eze, Camping Les Romarins is sure to get the sparks flying. Enjoy the tranquil surroundings and stunning sea views, or spend the evening in nearby Nice or Monaco. At Camping Les Gorges du Loup, you can pitch your tent amid olive groves and ancient oak trees, or cuddle up in a luxury caravan or mobile home. The site is located between Grasse and Vence, and enjoys a charming setting amid lush greenery. For a real lover's haven, head to L'Etoile D'Argens near Frejus. With a peaceful riverside location, this picturesque holiday village is just 3km from the beaches of St Aygulf (with its own water shuttle to take you down to the sea) and is surrounded by vineyards.

With some of the best beaches in Europe, a camping trip on the Cote d'Azur can be just the ticket for beach lovers. Five minutes from the sandy shoreline of Antibes, Camping du Pylone has a vast choice of activities and attractions on offer, both onsite and nearby. With sports, theme parks, casinos and much more, there's plenty to keep you active during your holiday... but if you'd rather just laze on the beach with a cocktail in hand, we certainly wouldn't blame you! As the name suggests, La Vallee du Paradis is an idyllic campsite situated only 500m from beautiful beaches. Sitting at the foot of the Esterel Mountains, it benefits from a wonderful location and offers some great extras, such as a sauna, Jacuzzi and fitness room. And for a beach camping trip with a difference, make your way to Camping des Gorges du Verdons - at an altitude of 660m - located at the entrance to the ‘Grand Canyon'. The beaches in question are those on the banks of the River Verdon and are outstandingly beautiful. The campsite enjoys incredible views over woods, mountains and the river below.

Finally, for those who are eager to enjoy the great outdoors but don't want to forego their creature comforts, we've chosen two ideal ‘glamping' sites. Esterel Caravanning offers a touch of luxury amidst its 1500m2 grounds. Sip on a cocktail in the chic bar or enjoy local specialities and international cuisine at the camp's smart restaurant. Choose from a private pitch with electricity and running water or a plush mobile home with panoramic views of the region. But for the ultimate in stylish camping, it has to be the Orion B&B in St Paul de Vence, which gives you the chance to stay in an utterly luxurious tree house perched high in the woods. Complete with panoramic terrace, fully-equipped bathroom, heating and internet connection, this is one campsite where getting back to nature needn't involve soggy groundsheets, cold showers and wellies!
