New low fares from Air France as price war intensifies

Air France is taking on the Low Cost carriers with a fullscale attack on price. The airline has created a new package called "Mini", with oneway tickets sold from 49 euros to 58 destinations in France, Europe and the Mediterranean basin.
The "Mini" package ha been designed for passengers traveling without baggage, nearly 50% of the clientele targeted on 58 destinations.
Tickets will be sold for short-and medium-haul flights from Paris-Orly and from Marseille, Nice and Toulouse. They will be available in both directions. "Air France wants to be present in a sustainable manner in the territory of low price," said a spokesman, with tickets €20 cheaper than the next package - the "Classic" economy product.
To reduce prices, checked baggage will cost extra, and travelers can not choose their seats when booking. However, they will have the same benefits in flight (drinks, snacks, newspapers).
Air France defined a new product and pricing range in October for customers traveling in Business and Premium Economy. In this segment, the airline opted to move upmarket.
To develop its new low-cost product, Air France based the design on the results of a survey of a panel of more than 4,200 medium-haul customers showing that for 60% of them, the price is a determining factor in the choice of travel.
