The Intercontinental Carlton Cannes has become the first five-star hotel in France

The ever-popular celebrity hotel, the InterContinental Carlton in Cannes has just been awarded its fifth star and is now the only five-star establishment in town. The extra star is a result of a change in French law which led to a change in the hotel rating system and sets them up nicely to ensure that they will continue to be one of the most prestigious places to stay and also the undisputed headquarters of the movie industry deal-makers.
To qualify for the fifth star, the hotel had to comply with 300 different standards relating to quality of services, equipment, comfort, disabled accessibility, environmental issues and new technologies. The hotel was also subjected to an official visit by the Ministry of Tourism and the always rather worrying prospect of a 'mystery guest'.

Hervé Novelli, French Minister of Tourism explained.
"The creation of a fifth star is crucial as it will allow French hotels to attract a new league of international clientele who often travel for business and appreciate the potential that France can offer them,"
"I am very proud to give InterContinental Carlton Cannes its fifth star. The hotel is a symbol of excellence and elegance and an important reference for the French hotel industry, an industry that we are trying to promote with this new classification."
FR2DAY plan to do a full report on the history of this wonderful hotel over the next few months so please make sure you keep checking back.
