Jazzing up the Summer on the Côte d'Azur!

Next Wednesday, 14th July, sees the start of the 50th Jazz à Juan Festival, Europe's longest running jazz festival. It promises to be a stunning 11 days of music featuring an amazing line-up of some of the world's most respected performers.

With the Nice Jazz Orchestra, Jim's Band and the Jazz à Juan Sextet all performing on the opening night, followed by a fireworks display, what better way to spend Bastille Day? And keep an eye out for some other FR2DAY favourites during the festival, like David Sanborn, George Benson, Melody Gardot, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Diana Krall. Unfortunately Daniel Lanois will not be appearing this year, following on from a serious motorbike crash recently. That aside, this is definitely a festival not to be missed with something for everyone! Full programme available on the Jazz à Juan website.

Saturday 17th July sees the start of the week-long Nice Jazz Festival, 'the first jazz festival in France' in the perfect setting of Le Parc des Arènes in Cimiez. The organisers have gathered a great line-up with the likes of Earth, Wind and Fire, Ornette Coleman, Al Jarreau and Pink Martini all taking to the stage. Further details of performances can be found on the festival website. Keep an eye out for the Nice Jazz Off Festival which also runs from 17 - 24 July and will be bringing jazz to the streets, squares and airport of Nice!

FR2DAY will be reporting on these two great festivals in the coming weeks. But why just take our word for it - get along to the shows and experience the wonderful summer of jazz for yourself! FNAC are also offering a reduction of 40% on some tickets for the Nice Jazz Festival - further information available on the FNAC Spectacles website.
