Celebrate New Year in Style on the French Riviera

New Year's Eve on the French Riviera. One of the most glamorous places in the world but you're still stuck for something to do? Well, no need to worry, as FR2DAY is here to bring you up to speed on some of the best events around, whether you're into glitzy and glamorous, or plain-old high spirited fun, we've got a great selection to choose from.

If you want to eat out on New Year's Eve, there's plenty of choice. Stars 'n' Bars in Monaco are offering a 4 course meal, plus coffee and champagne for €82, with a children's menu for €38. There's a similar event upstairs at Fusion on the Port (€110), and also in Monaco, La Saliere has a special New Year's menu for €110. Ma Nolan's in Nice is having a party, certain to be lively, and they'll also be serving a 3 course meal for €35, including a glass of champagne. Also in Nice, you could try Le Tire Bouchon, with its gloriously cosy atmosphere, which has a delicious set menu for €82.

Fancy splashing out a bit more? New Year's Eve dinner will be served at Le Bâoli in Cannes, where the dress code is "Gala", and dinner is a fabulous set menu including whole rock lobster tail, followed by beef filet mignon. Afterwards, 2 DJ's will play through until 5am. If you're looking for glam in Monaco, you can't get better than the Café de Paris, the Hotel Hermitage, or the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, all of which are offering sumptuous dinner packages in elegant surroundings. At the Hotel Martinez in Cannes, Bee Gees Magic, an 80's tribute band, will be performing Bee Gees "classics" such as Stayin' Alive and How Deep is Your Love in the salon Royal Galuchat after dinner. And if money really is no object, then why not reserve a table at Le Louis XV, Alain Ducasse in Monaco, where New Year's Eve dinner costs a cool €760...wine not included.....

If cabaret is your thing, then you can tuck into a buffet at the Casino Beaulieu sur Mer, whilst listening to the group Duo Connection. There's also New Year at the Music Hall with the troupe Revue et Corrigée in Cagnes-sur-Mer. Or for something a little more feisty, try Heyoka Pampa Argentina, at the Palais des Festivals, Cannes - an intense Argentinian dance show comprising 14 hot-blooded male dancers doing a Latino stomp! You can see some high-kicks at the Palm Beach in Cannes, where they're having a Moulin Rouge and Can-Can evening. For something really difference, why not try the New Year's Eve spectacle at Marineland?

On the pink scene, there's Rainbow Revolution, planned to be the biggest gay event in France, where the New Year will kick off with renowned DJ's playing some fantastic music at The Acropolis.

If you prefer a bit of culture on New Year's Eve, then there's always the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, who present Shéhérazade, Spectre de la Rose, Silent Cries, and Les Noces at the Salle des Princes.

Afterwards, you could head along to Casino Square in Monaco where some first class fireworks will bring in the New Year with a bang. Don't expect to find the wild revelry that you might find in some places in the UK or the US - there's definitely no random kissing of complete strangers here. What you will find though, is a nice family atmosphere.

If you're planning on staying at one of the ski resorts, then Auron and Isola 2000 both have torchlight processions, fireworks, and lots of mulled wine and hot chocolate to keep out the winter chills.

No Aliens haven't landed - it's the Christmas Market in Nice and this year the theme is Mother Russia. Yes, there's everything including a miniature Russian Church

You've visited the Christmas markets, done your Christmas shop, had your fill of mulled wine, and you've even wobbled around a Christmas ice-rink with the kids.

With its sweeping coast, 300 days of sunshine and palm tree lined promenades, the Côte d'Azur may not be the first destination you think of for Christmas, but ......
