What's On Round-up - au revoir le G20!

The G20 summit is coming to an end today to the relief of most people on the Riviera. All eyes may have been on Cannes this week but for us the international meeting has mostly meant traffic disruption, reinforced police presence and demonstrations so it is going to be nice to have the place back to ourselves. And if the Côte d'Azur is no longer the center of universe, it does not mean that we will get bored. As you will see in this week's round-up, the agenda for the next seven days is packed with fun and interesting events.
Music lovers will have plenty to choose from this weekend and week ahead, starting with Italian teenage pop-opera trio, Il Volo, who will be in Nice this Saturday. The three young tenors who have broken the Top 10 in the US, will perform songs from their self-titled debut album at the Acropolis.

On the same night, but this time at the Nikaia, Kill the Young will present their latest album "Thicker than water". Influenced by groups such as Smashing Pumpkins and REM, the English post-punk scene and modern acts such as Radiohead and Arcade Fire, the trio made of three brothers is one of the most exciting indie bands of the moment.
Meanwhile fans of classical music, and more specifically of Mendelssohn, Bartoldy and Tchaikovsky, may opt for one of the two concerts offered by the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm.

If you have a sweet tooth, then the 20th "salon du Palais Gourmand" held at the Hippodrome de la Côte d'Azur in Cagnes-sur-Mer, from 10th to 14th November is for you. Created in 1992, the trade fair has become over the years one of the top five salons in France for this sector of activity and allows visitors to embark on a real gastronomic Tour de France.
You can also check out the various fêtes de la chataigne which are going to take place this weekend. Whether you are in Vallauris today, Biot tomorrow or Isola the entire weekend, the programme is the same: plenty of music and tastings of local products!
And if you like to cook as much as you like to eat, Davis Holis from Foodies Cooking is hosting a Sushi class and dinner party this Monday from 6:30 - 9:30pm in the newly open restaurant "La Cave de Max" in Cap d'Ail.
Art lovers are not being left out of the fun either. A new museum is opening its doors this Sunday in Menton. Made up of 623 designs, 425 photographs, 177 manuscripts, 70 posters, 51 prints as well as sculptures, ceramics, glass works and tapestries gathered by a Belgian-born American art collector, Séverin Wunderman, the museum hopes to become the biggest single collection of Cocteau works.
This month the principality of Monaco continues to celebrate the nuptials of Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock with an exhibition entitled The Story of the Princely Wedding held at the Musée Océanographique.
Over in Nice, the Lacquer and Gold from Burma exhibition in the Musée des Arts Asiatiques is coming to an end on Monday. This weekend is therefore your last chance to admire a large number of lacquered and gilded objects used in the daily and religious life in Burma. Staying in Nice, do not forget to check out the two exhibitions that are currently underway in Galerie Oscar.
Finally, the sport fans among you will be sure to root for AS Monaco who host Le Mans this Saturday at 2:30pm and OGC Nice who play in Marseille this Sunday at 5pm.
That's it for this week's round-up. Enjoy the peace and quiet now that all the word leaders have gone home and if you want to be sure not to miss any of the events going on the Côte d'Azur, keep checking our Facebook page for your daily slice of Riviera life.
