What's On Round-up - Happy Christmas!

Welcome back to another weekly round-up, bringing you some of the very best festive activities on the beautiful French Riviera. Yes indeed, Christmas is finally here! Besides all the seasonal merriment and parties and gatherings that you will undoubtedly be attending, here are some other activities that might tickle your fancy over the coming seven days.

Ballet lovers are in for a real treat this week with the Ballets de Monte-Carlo back in action with their interpretation of Jean-Christophe Maillot's 'Lac' at the Grimaldi Forum. Performances are on each night at 8:30pm from the 27th - 31st December and tickets cost €10 - €33.

Not to be outdone, Nice offers the dance lover the Ballet Nice Méditerranée and their presentation of "Coppélia" at the Opera House. Choreographed by Eric Vu-An (pictured below), this promises to be some spectacle. The first performance takes place tomorrow afternoon, Christmas Eve at 3pm and there are performances throughout the week up to New Year's Eve.

The Christmas markets have definitely added to the seasonal flavour throughout the region, with something for everyone from Monaco to Nice, and Grasse to Cannes. The Foire aux santons  in Mouans-Sartoux, finishes tomorrow, Christmas Eve, with thousands of "santons de Provence", of all shapes, sizes and colours on display.

Try catch the "Christmas in Wonderland" display in the Hôtel Métropole in Monte-Carto, which continues its tribute to Lewis Carroll with a huge Christmas tree decorated in powder pinks and lime greens and adorned with golden touches, rock candies, giant biscuits and pocket watches - it has to be seen to be believed!

For something a little bit different, why not head along to the Palais des Festivals de Cannes to catch the 38 acrobats from the National Circus of China who will be performing the Nutcracker on Monday and Tuesday next (26th and 27th December). Tickets cost from €22 - €28.

For lovers of all things Cocteau, you may want to check out the new Jean Cocteau Museum in Menton which is hosting a temporary exhibition dedicated to Jean Sabrier, a Bordeaux based artist, who gives new perspectives to paintings through art history. It will also give you the opportunity to admire more than 2,000 works from the multi-talented Cocteau.

On the sporting front, OGC Nice and Ligue 2 neighbours AS Monaco have the holiday season off, and will be back in action in mid-January.

So, that's it for this week. May we take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy and healthy Christmas, have a great weekend and week ahead and remember to keep checking our Facebook page for your daily slice of (festive) French Riviera life!
